Shion no Ou (The Flowers of Hard Blood) anime ini berkisah tentang Yasuoka Shion anak berbakat dalam dunia shougi. Dari penampilan luar nya yang ceria dan mudah akrab dengan orang di sekitar nya, shion memiliki sebuah masa lalu yang sangat kelam. Kedua orangtua nya di bunuh di depan mata nya sendiri pada malam hari. Di perburuk karena kejadian itu dirinya shock dan tidak bisa mengeluarkan suaranya, dia berinteraksi menggunakan kertas dengan orang lain.
Kisah ini akan mengikuti keseharian Shion saat belajar di Asosiasi Shougi atau saat Shion bertanding merebutkan gelar Kishi Perempuan. Tapi secara bersamaan pembunuh kedua orang tua nya mulai menunjukan dirinya kembali di sela-sela pertandingan Shion. Hal tersebut sangat mengkhawatir kan Shion dan orang-orang di sekitar nya. Gimana kisah selanjut nya dari Shion? Apakah dia bisa mendapatkan gelar Kishi dan menjadi pemain shougi profesional? Dan siapakah penjahat yang membunuh kedua orang tua nya?
