Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex berkisah di masa depan umat manusia telah maju ke keadaan di mana pencangkokan tubuh lengkap dari daging ke mesin dimungkinkan. Hal ini memungkinkan peningkatan besar dalam kecakapan fisik dan cybernetic dan mengaburkan batas antara kedua dunia.
