Tennis no oujisama (The Prince of Tennis) Kanata Hongo tampil sebagai produser tenis Echizen Ryoma yang, setelah memenangkan empat kemenangan berturut-turut di AS, dibawa kembali ke Jepang oleh ayahnya dan terdaftar di Sekolah Menengah Akademi Seishun yang bergengsi, terkenal dengan tim tenisnya.
Ryoma segera menemukan dirinya satu-satunya tahun pertama di tim sekolah, bermain di samping kapten sekolah dan pemain nasional Tezuka Kunimitsu, Oishi Syuichirou yang berkepala dingin dan Kikamura Eiji akrobatik. Dia juga menarik perhatian Higaki Shioin, gadis aneh dan pendiam yang mengamatinya dengan penuh perhatian dari bangku penonton.
