Tales of Zestiria the X bercerita tentang orey adalah seorang pemuda yang tumbuh bersama para Seraphim, makhluk halus yang tak terlihat oleh manusia. Sorey percaya pada sebuah dongeng yang berkata bahwa “dahulu kala, semua manusia bisa melihat seraphim” dan impian untuk mengungkap misteri kuno bisa menjadikan dunia ini sebagai tempat di mana manusia dan para seraphim hidup berdampingan dengan damai.
Suatu hari, untuk pertama kalinya, Sorey mengunjungi ibu kota manusia. Dia terlibat didalam suatu insiden saat dia mencabut pedang suci yang tertancap pada sebuah batu dan menjadi sang Pelindung, orang yang dapat menjauhkan dunia dari malapetaka. Dia mulai merasakan tanggungjawab besar yang diembankan padanya, dan mimpinya untuk menjadikan manusia dan seraphim hidup secara berdampingan semakin dekat.
Dan kemudian, sang Pelindung melakukan perjalanan yang luar biasa bersama dengan teman.
