Sakamichi no Apollon (Kids on the Slope) bercerita tentang Nishimi Kaoru telah sering berpindah-pindah tempat tinggal dan juga sekolah karena tuntutan pekerjaan ayahnya . Jadi hari pertama masuk sekolah baru, sudah merupakan rutinitas baginya . Menjadi seorang anak yang cerdas dan seorang murid pindahan , itu membuatnya tertekan dan itu harus ditahannya sampai perpindahan berikutnya .
Tapi kali ini terjadi sesuatu yang berbeda . Pertama , menjadi dekat dengan Pengurus Kelas Ritsuko Mukae dan selanjutnya seperti tak sengaja dia pun menjadi teman dari Sentaro Kawabuchi . Sentaro adalah murid terkenal yang selalu terlibat perkelahian , bolos dalam kelas dan benar-benar terlihat seperti berandalan, Anehnya mereka bertiga menemukan kesamaan dalam musik , yaitu musik Jazz dan Kaoru menjadi sadar bahwa dirinya sangat menikmati kota baru pindahannya .
